Add a combined chat overlay to OBS

A multistream chat overlay: all four chats on screen as one feed, using a browser source. No plugin, and nothing to install in OBS.

Build the overlay link

Open the overlay builder from the app. Enter your channel names, then adjust the appearance while watching the live preview. The preview sits on a checkerboard so you can see exactly what is transparent, and you can switch it between a bright scene, a dark scene and a green screen, because an overlay that reads well on grey often disappears on white.

What you can change

• Font, text size and message colour.
• Text outline, which keeps messages readable over bright gameplay without putting a solid box on your stream.
• Background colour and opacity, either behind the whole panel or behind each individual message.
• Whether messages rise from the bottom or fill from the top.
• How many messages stay on screen, and whether old ones disappear after a set number of seconds.
• Platform icons, channel avatars, and timestamps.

Add it to OBS

1. Copy the generated link from the builder.
2. In OBS, add a Browser source.
3. Paste the link into the URL field.
4. Set width and height to match your canvas, usually 1920 by 1080.
5. Leave the custom CSS box as it is and click OK.

Position and resize it like any other source. The background is transparent, so only the text appears over your scene.

If the overlay looks out of date

OBS caches browser sources. If you change your settings and the overlay keeps showing the old look, right-click the source, open Properties, and click Refresh cache of current page.

Common questions

Does the overlay need a plugin?

No. It is a browser source, which is built into OBS. Paste the link and it works.

Can I use it in Streamlabs or other software?

Yes. Any broadcasting software that supports browser sources can use the same link.

Is the background transparent?

Yes by default, so only chat text appears over your scene. You can add a background colour and set its opacity if you prefer.
